John TESTROW c1825-1907 & Mary BOYLE c.1830-1891

Portland & Digby, Victoria & South Australia

John TESTROW b. c1825 Cheshire, England, son of ____ and ____ and Mary BOYLE b. c.1830 Kilrush, Ireland were married in 1851 at Portland, Victoria.

An unnamed girl was born and died aged 1 day at "Ardgarton Station" near Digby in 1859 and was buried in the Digby Cemetery. Her father, John TESTROW's occupation was recorded as being a Butcher.

Other children have not had births located in the indexes at this time, perhaps they were not registered. Information from marriages and deaths indicates there were four other children born between 1851 and 1859. The family appears to have moved over the border to Mount Gambier, South Australia after 1859 where additional children were born.

John TESTROW may be the John TESTROW who was transported as a convict to Tasmania in 1843. He sailed from London on the "Lord Petre" on 07 Jul 1843 and arrived in Tasmania 15 Oct 1843 and sailed from Launceston to Portland Bay in September 1850, being recorded as "Free by servitude". Further research is needed to establish this link.

Mary TESTROW (nee BOYLE) appears to have died in 1891 in Mount Gambier, South Australia, and John in 1907 in Adelaide, South Australia.
