John NEWELL b. 1822, Massingham, Norfolk, England, son of John NEWELL and Ann ___ was married in 1849 in Norfolk, England to Phoebe HALL, b. 1831, Hertfordshire, England, daughter of Richard HALL and Catherine WEST.
John & Phoebe NEWELL emigrated to Australia on the 'Dominion' in 1852 along with a son Reuben. A daughter Martha was born on the voyage out to Australia and they arrived in Victoria in October 1852.
It appears from the birth of additional children that they went to Mt Gambier in South Australia and then back to the Digby, Hotspur and Dartmoor areas of south-west Victoria in the 1860s.
