Co Derry, Ireland; Portland & Hotspur, S-W Victoria, Australia John McCONACHY b. 1815 Co Derry, Ireland, son of Thomas McCONACHY and Magaret McCOMBE was married in Ireland to Jane McGUINESS, b. c 1804 Co Derry, IRL, daughter of Charles McGUINESS and Isabel McCONACHY. John McCONACHY and Jane McGINESS had the following children:
1841 - John McCONACHY and family arrived at Portland where John was a appointed a policeman for a number of years. 1841 - John McCONACHY listed as Gaol Keeper for Portland Gaol. 1849 - John was granted a licence to the "Woodford Inn" on the Glenelg River at Dartmoor. 1856 - John McCONACHY built the "Rising Sun" hotel at Hotspur on the Crawford River. 1850s - J. McCONACHY as listed as an early landowner on the Hotspur Parish map. 1859 Mary McCONACHY, daughter of John and Jane married Henry McCOMBE and they raised a large family at Narrawong, near Portland. 1860, 25th April - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, John McCONACHY of Hotspur applied for and was granted a General Publican's Licence for the Rising Sun Hotel at Hotspur. Surities were - Duncan McCALLUM of Ardgarton, Digby and John STOCK of Hotspur. 1861, 23rd April - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, John McCONACHY of Hotspur applied for and was granted a General Publican's Licence for the Rising Sun Hotel at Hotspur. Surities were - Thomas Henry CLARKE of Merino and John STOCK of Hotspur. 1862 - John McCONACHY died at the "Rising Sun" hotel and was buried in the Hotspur Cemetery. 1862 - David McCONACHY, son of John was listed as a juror into the the inquest, held at the "Rising Sun" hotel into the death of Andrew BOURKE at the "Rising sun" hotel. 1862, 30th April - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, Jane McCONACHY of Hotspur applied for and was granted a General Publican's Licence for the Rising Sun Hotel at Hotspur. Surities were - Thomas Henry CLARKE of Merino and John STOCK of Hotspur. 1863, 20th April - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, Jane McCONACHY of Hotspur applied for and was granted a General Publican's Licence for the Rising Sun Hotel at Hotspur. Surities were - Duncan McEACHERN of Kangaroo Station and John STOCK of Hotspur. 1863, 9th September - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, Jane McCONACHY of Hotspur transferred her her General Publican's Licence for the Rising Sun Hotel at Hotspur to William CHARTER. Surities were - Hugh LEWIS of Digby and Alfred T FARLEY of Digby. 1873 - Margaret McCONACHY, daughter of John & Jane married Samuel CONDON. 1891 - David McCONACHY, butcher of Casterton, son of John & Jane died at Hamilton from tetanus, 1895 - Jane McCONACHY, widow of John died at Mt Gambier, SA. |
