Robert COCHRANE b. 1848, at sea on the "Cornwall", eldest son of William COCHRANE c.1821-1873 and Martha ATKINSON 1826-1893 was married in 1879, "Runnymede Station", Sandford, Victoria to Alice "Alvie" Jane GILL b. 1862 Branxholme, Victoria, daughter of George GILL and Alice Jane DOOLEY.
Robert COCHRANE spent the early days of his life with his family at Dartmoor and Portland where other siblings were born. It is claimed that his mother and Mrs John GRANT of the "Woodford Inn" at Dartmoor were the only two white woman in the Dartmoor area in the early 1850s. - c.1863-1865 walked to Digby and worked with Owen OWENS at "Pleasant Hills" Station for 2 years
- c.1865-1868 worked for Richard LEWIS at "Rifle Downs" Station, Digby
- c.1868 worked for a short time at the TURNBULL's "Winninburn" Station near Coleraine
- 1868 moved to Casterton and worked for 3 years with John SPURRELL, butcher
- c.1871 carried mail for John LIVOCK to Lindsay near the SA border
- c.1872 worked on the Shire Council
- c.1873 worked as a carpenter for Thomas JEFFREYS at Casterton
- c. 1874-1881 went into business with his brother Henry as builder and contractor
- 1879 Robert COCHRANE married Alice "Alvie" Jane GILL at "Runnymede" Station near Sandford
- c.1881 > operated a furniture and ironmongers store in Casterton
- 1900 built his house "Bellevue" in Jackson Street, Casterton
- 1926 Robert COCHRANE died at Casterton
- 1955 Alice COCHRANE (nee GILL), widow of Robert died at Casterton
