James KILBY c1826- ? & Susan HAZELL c1832-1904

Butcher of Casterton, 1882

James KILBY b. ca 1826, Hertfordshire, England, son of Joseph KILBY & Sarah MARLOW was married in London to Susan HAZELL, b. ca 1832, Surry, England daughter of John HAZELL and Ann HOUSE.

James KILBY appears to be the James KILBY, butcher in the 1882 Commercial Sector Plan of Henty Street, Casterton.

James and Susan KILBY appear to have arrived in Melbourne in 1854 on the ship "Delta" which had the following KILBYs listed on the passenger list - Jno KILBY (49), Daniel KILBY (35), James KILBY (32), Susan KILBY (29), William KILBY (13), James KILBY (10). Daniel KILBY appears to be James KILBY's brother who died at Branxholme in 1891.

There is another interesting KILBY passenger record for a group depating Melbourne for New Zealand on the "Thomas Worthington" on 20 July 1854 with passengers including; Daniel Kilby (33), Mrs Kilby (31), James Kilby Snr (37), James Kilby Jnr (8).

James & Susan KILBY were in Melbourne and Branxholme where 11 children were born from 1854 to 1875 prior to having the butcher shop in Casterton in 1882.

A number of branches of this family appear to have moved north to New South Wales.
