Casterton Community Museum Opening Times:
  • Casterton Visitor Information Centre, Shiels Terrace, Casterton – opening times 9am to 5pm 7 days a week. Contact 55 812070 to make enquires about accessing the Casterton Community Museum - Research and Family History section.
  • Casterton Community Museum located at the Railway Station building in Jackson St, open by appointment. Contact 55 812070 for further details.
  • Both sections of the Casterton Community Museum are CLOSED from the 24th December to the 1st February.
  • The Casterton Community Museum has obtained Donor Gift Recipient endorsement by the Australian Taxation Office. If you would like to make a donation to the Museum, all donations over $2.00 are tax deductible. All donations go towards the conservation and preservation of the Museum Collection.

Copies of the book "Chetwynd Memories" are still available. This book was published for the Chetwynd Hall Centenary 1908-2008. Cost is $25.00 including postage anywhere in Victoria - enquiries to Sally Stevenson Email

Casterton & District Historical Society Calendar of Events for 2010:

  • February 17th - BBQ at the Visitor Information Centre commencing at 12 noon. Food provided - BYO Drinks (3rd Wednesday of the month).
  • March 13th (Saturday) - Annual Dinner – "Beneath the Dardanelles", Guest speakers and co-authors John & Hatice Basarin. Albion Hotel – 6.30pm for 7pm. 2 course Dinner and Presentation - $20.00 per person.   • March 21st (Sunday) - Field Trip to Strathdownie –(to be confirmed) Leader – Mr John McGrath. Visiting Strathdownie Cemetery, Wilderness Church, Strathdownie Hall and Former State School sites.
  • April 21st - General Meeting – RSL Casterton 2.00pm (3rd Wednesday of the month).
  • May 9th - Field Trip to the South East Family History Group, Millicent. (to be confirmed) Visiting Penola & Millicent historic sites.
  • May 19th - General Meeting – RSL Casterton 2.00pm (3rd Wednesday of the month).
  • June - No General Meeting.
  • June 13th - Field Trip to Heritage and History Group, Mt Gambier (to be confirmed).
  • July - No General Meeting.
  • July 11th - Merino Hotel and Heritage Cinema Film – "The Collectors". Produced by Casterton locals, these 8 short films show our "local icons" from around the region and their collections. Lunch and Film - $20.00, 12.00 Lunch – 1.30pm Film, Film only $5.00
  • August 18th - Annual General Meeting RSL Casterton 2pm. Guest Speaker to be advised.
  • September 15th - General Meeting RSL Casterton 2pm (3rd Wednesday of the month).
  • October 10th - Field Trip to Wilkin – Wildflowers Leader Lyn Tait (to be confirmed).
  • November 14th - Field Trip to Chetwynd, Lunch at Sloba & Ilya’s. Leader – John Gartlan. Interesting historic sites around Chetwynd and Harrow.
