John CLARKE 1859-1896 & Mary TREMAIN / WHITE 1861-1931

Sandford & Carapook, S-W Victoria, Australia

John CLARKE, b. 1859, Portland, Victoria, son of William CLARKE and Mary Louisa / Susanna MASON was married in 1880 in Victoria to Mary TREMAIN / WHITE, b. 1861 "Binnum Binnum" Station, South Australia daughter of Thomas TREMAIN and Maria BRENNAN. There appears to be confusion over the name of John's wife, Mary, at times she is named Mary TREMAINE and at other times Mary WHITE or Mary Tremaine WHITE.

This family appears to have lived near Carapook & Sandford and two of their sons are recorded on the Carapook WW1 Honour Roll. John CLARK gave his address as Carapook in 1884 when his daughter Elizabeth was born.

John CLARKE's death was registered at Sandford in 1896 and he was buried in the Sandfaord Cemetery. It appears that his widow Mary had another child, Catherine CLARKE born at Sandford in 1902.
